This hot spring, submitted by Maruia Hot Springs Limited of New Zealand, is situated on the banks of the Maruia River within the Lewis Pass National Reserve. Surrounded by mountains, it represents the highest standard of alpine hot spring wellness in Australia. Its spring source was discovered by an exploration team over a century ago and has evolved over a hundred years into its current scale. As a natural alpine sulfur hot spring, the water is sourced from a mountain spring over 900 meters high without any artificial heating, maintaining a natural year-round temperature of 55–60°C. To suit different visitor needs, 5–9°C mountain spring water is blended to adjust the temperature to between 39°C and 42°C. The spring water contains unique black and white algae, and together with the pristine alpine ecosystem, it creates a distinctive healing atmosphere.

Guided by the philosophy of “simplicity in essence,” the development features three core hot spring pools and two sauna rooms, complemented by a variety of accommodations including luxurious hotel rooms, distinctive glamping pods, and self-service camping grounds. Among these, five standard camping pods and five deluxe glamping pods cater to couples, families, and groups respectively. The camping area also offers stunning views of the Maruia River, and at night, visitors can enjoy stargazing while soaking in the springs. Surrounding hiking trails allow guests to experience “hot spring plus” activities such as cold bathing and forest bathing. Although located deep in the mountains with no external restaurants nearby and paid internet access required, the resort’s own dining facilities meet all culinary needs. Its secluded and tranquil environment allows visitors to completely disconnect from electronic devices and immerse themselves in nature-based wellness.
