Recently, the expansion project for Shenzhen Airport's new phase has drawn significant attention. Following the tender for the main structure of Terminal 2, a demolition tender has now been issued for the land preparation of the Terminal 1 site. In the future, Terminal 1 will be built east of the airport, integrating seamlessly with the Airport East high-speed railway station to form an "air-rail intermodal, station-city integrated" comprehensive transportation hub. Passengers will be able to complete an "air-rail transfer" within the same floor in as little as five minutes without leaving the building.
According to a report by Shenzhen Special Zone Daily and Dute News, citing information from Shenzhen Airport, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the airport’s passenger throughput, cargo and mail throughput, and flight movements reached new highs of 66 million, 2 million metric tons, and 440,000, respectively. The existing passenger and cargo facilities concentrated in the southern part of the airport are nearing saturation. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Shenzhen Airport's development will expand northward and eastward, accelerating key projects such as Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the northern cargo area. This spatial expansion will support further growth in traffic volume and hub capacity, injecting new momentum into regional economic and social development as well as the construction of a world-class airport cluster in the Greater Bay Area.
