The World Famous Tourism Mountains and IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Route are certification initiatives conducted by the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) in accordance with the IMTA’s Statute, and based on the Certification Guideline and Criteria of World Famous Tourism Mountains,,International Guidebook for the Development of Hiking, and Certification of IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Route, as well as other relevant outcomes developed by the IMTA.
These initiatives are carried out among mountain tourism destinations, hiking route management organizations, and operators in the global mountain tourism community and within the IMTA’s members. They provide references and technical guidance for the standardized and sustainable development of mountain tourism worldwide. They also represent an important initiative of IMTA to actively contribute to the development of the global mountain tourism governance system, advance the development and application of professional standards, and promote their wider adoption.
Following the release of the Announcement on the Call for 2026 World Famous Tourism Mountains and IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes, IMTA has received applications from mountain tourism destinations, hiking route management organizations, and operators worldwide.
In response to new policies and regulations issued by the relevant registration and regulatory authority in the country where the IMTA is registered concerning industry evaluation and certification activities, the IMTA will further standardize the implementation of the above-mentioned certification programs in accordance with the new requirements, optimize and improve the certification framework, and promote a transition from one-time certification to continuous management. These efforts are intended to safeguard the authority and long-term credibility of the IMTA certification system.
In light of the above, the release of the certification results for the 2026 World Famous Tourism Mountains and IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes will be postponed. The new date for the release of the results will be announced separately.
