In 2021, the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) gathered experts to formulate the International Guidebook for the Development of Hiking, which provides professional technical guidance for mountain hiking tourism and promotes its standardized development. Based on the Guidebook, the IMTA has certified a total of 26 "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes" from around the world, including the Chamonix Part of the Tour du Mont Blanc in France, the Xingyi Wanfenglin Hiking Route in China, the Changbai Mountain Forest Secret Land Mountain Hiking Tourist Route in China, the Mundum Trail in Nepal, and the Luang Prabang-Nong Khiaw Hiking Trail in Laos, etc. It has inspired enthusiasm and motivation among mountain hiking tourism developers and enthusiasts from all over the world, and generated widespread attention and enthusiastic response from both the society and industry.

The certification of "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes" contributes significantly to promoting innovative development of tourism destinations, advocating the integration of mountain ecological environments and diverse cultural histories, diversifying tourism product offerings, enhancing the appeal of mountain tourism, and advancing the high-quality sustainable development of mountain tourism. The IMTA is now calling for applications for the "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes" in 2026, warmly welcomes related management institutions to actively apply for participation. The IMTA Secretariat will gather experts to sift, scrutinize, and certify during the process. Successfully certified applicants will be officially announced and issued certification as "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Route" at the IMTA's key events.
