On May 29 , 1953, the New Zealand mountaineer and his sherpa guide successfully completed the ascent of Mount Everest, which marked a significant chapter in human history. In recognition of this achievement, IMTA officially initiated the establishment of May 29 as "International Mountain Tourism Day" at it’s 2018 annual conference to commemorate the first successful human ascent of the world's highest peak, marking the mountain tourism sector having its own dedicated day. International Mountain Tourism Day is not only a day of commemoration, but also signifies the exploration and establishment of a sustainable and global platform for tourism cooperation, cultural exchanges and dialogue among civilizations, which could actively participating in the construction of global tourism governance system.
Each year, the host of the "International Mountain Tourism Day" Theme Event is selected from among the applicants (details of the previous events are available on IMTA official website: www.imtaweb.net). We are now inviting applicants from governments worldwide, IMTA members, world famous mountain tourism destinations and tourism authorities to bid for the "International Mountain Tourism Day 2025" Theme Event.
I Application Period
Applications should be sent to IMTA secretariat by September 1 , 2024.
II Application Requirements
1. The hosting place must meet the policies and requirements for hosting major events, with priority given to countries where IMTA members are located.
2.The government and tourism department of the applicant located must demonstrate clear support for the event, facilitating event approval, guest invitation and reception.
3. The applicant should submit a general plan for co-hosting the "International Mountain Tourism Day 2025" Theme Event, detailing the input of human resources, funds and materials, publicity, etc.
III Application Process
Interested applicants are invited to submit official application letters and general event plan to the Comprehensive Business Department of the IMTA Secretariat ( Contact, Mr. Liu Guosong, E-mail: liu@imtaweb.org) by September 1 , 2024.
