Revitalize the Tourism Industry, Share the Beauty Life

Theme events of International Mountain Tourism Day 2023 to kick off

We are in action for International Mountain Tourism Day

International Mountain Tourism Day is a global commemorative day initiated by the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) in 2018, a holiday for mountain tourism enthusiasts and practitioners, as well as a sharing platform benefiting and jointly developed by the global mountain tourism industry and IMTA's members. It has become the most renowned and influential institutional brand event through which IMTA participates in the construction of the global tourism governance system.

In 2023 that saw the recovery of global tourism, IMTA acted proactively with its original aspiration and founding mission in mind. On 24 March, IMTA organized the 2nd Dialogue with China's Famous Mountains of "World Natural and Cultural Heritage" in collaboration with the China News Agency, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Anhui Provincial People's Government, the CPC Huangshan Municipal Committee and the Huangshan Municipal People's Government, to promote the preservation, development and inheritance of world heritage, as well as the construction of natural ecology. On 21 April, IMTA appeared at the 2nd China (Wuhan) Culture and Tourism Expo: IMTA's space-unit booth in the center of the international pavilion featured thrilling outdoor adventures, challenging BMX, stylish and cool water equipment, and various camping facilities, showing and advocating a trendy mountain life, and promoting the revitalization and high-quality development of tourism after COVID-19. Besides, IMTA joined hands with Minsheng Think Tank to deliver a salon themed "High-quality Development of Mountain Tourism in the New Era" in Beijing, and took an active part in the preparation for the International Mountain Tourism Conference, the IMTA Annual Conference, the Dialogue among Famous Mountains in the World and other events to be held in Guizhou in September. These events will discuss the new trends, new opportunities and new modes of mountain tourism, and explore a new path for the international and high-quality development of mountain tourism.

Building a bridge of tourism exchanges through distinctive mountain tourism

With the acceleration in global tourism recovery since 2023, mountain tourism has drawn great attention as a key tourism sector, and been favored by the public for being close to nature, positive and healthy, as well as the various experiences it offers. Many have chosen to relax themselves in nature, tenting in mountains with friends and relatives, talking over campfires and indulging themselves in mountains. The camping craze during the "May Day" holiday that just passed shows people's love for mountain tourism, which has become an important driver for tourism recovery. The theme event of International Mountain Tourism Day 2023 will build a bridge of international mountain tourism exchanges, and bring industry players together to discuss and share a bright future of sustainable mountain tourism.

Grasping opportunities to jointly promote the full recovery of tourism

Tourism is entering a new stage of development and renewal both domestically and internationally. To discuss the high-quality development of tourism, we must not only understand the general framework and trend of the development of the times, but also probe into tourism, especially the current situation of tourism, as well as the cultural, social and economic tensions shown in its recent and medium-term development, come up with new ideas and concepts, set new goals and explore paths of realization, and promote the high-quality development of mountain tourism, so as to meet the ever-growing public demand for a better life. Through the 5th International Mountain Tourism Day, based on the requirements of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China that international tourism organizations initiated by China should take active part in the construction of the global tourism governance system, promote the high-quality development of tourism, and tell the stories of China and the world, IMTA should work with destination governments, non-profit organizations, tourism-related enterprises and IMTA's members, to discuss mountain tourism supply, market development and solutions catering to new consumer needs, to promote the full recovery, opening-up and interaction of the tourism market, and to explore a mountain tourism cooperation and governance system under the RCEP framework.
