Malaysia is Ready to Open its Border and Welcome Visitors

On August 18, the 2022 Asian Mountain Tourism Promotion Conference with the theme of "Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit, Inclusiveness, Cooperation, and Sharing——Jointly Building a New Future for Asian Mountain Tourism" was held in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Online address by Ybhg Dato'hj Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia.

The following is the full text of the speech:

The theme this year, Jointly Building a New Future for Asian Mountain Tourism.Mountain-climbing is an excellent activity, that simultaneously allows an exploration of the richness and uniqueness of Malaysia's natural terrains, which range from tropical rainforests in the lowlands to mountain vegetations at high elevations.

As the well-known destination for nature-based activities and ecotourism,Malaysia’s mountains offer different levels of challenges for all climbers from easy treks in the cool comfort of Peninsular Malaysia's Main Range to the more demanding summits of Malaysian Borneo. To name a few, there are Mount Ledang in Johor, Mount Tahan in Pahang, Mulu Showcaves in Sarawak,Mount Kinabalu and Sinua Trusmadi in Sabah.

Ladies and Gentlemen.Much like climbing the mountains, we have gone through many ups and downs. But as they always say, the best view comes after the hardest climb.Despite the circumstances, I am very grateful for everyone’s dedication and passion, that have driven the betterment of the tourism industry.

After two eventful years of living with the pandemic, I am delighted to share the good news,of the reopening of our international borders that will commence on 1st April 2022.We are now ready to welcome all of you to our humble home that is Malaysia.

I hope everyone will take full advantage of our exciting mountaineering packages that await you,as they will guarantee a rewarding exploration filled with breathtaking views and discoveries, that will broaden your mind with each ascent.

Malaysia is growing in popularity as a destination for international nature-based events.Home to a rich biodiversity, our national parks, forest reserves, and animal sanctuaries are waiting to welcome all of you.Hence, I urge my international friends to choose Malaysia as your next destination for an adventure-packed holiday.

Lastly, on behalf of Tourism Malaysia, I wish the conference a grand success.See you in Malaysia soon.
