The Portuguese National Tourism Administration recently successfully held its 2025 China Roadshow in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Macau, engaging in in-depth exchanges with over 200 Chinese travel industry partners alongside 23 local resource providers. The event revealed that Chinese tourist arrivals to Portugal are projected to reach 350,000 this year, with an estimated 550,000 overnight stays, and steady growth is anticipated to continue into 2026.

To sustain Chinese tourist interest, Portugal is enhancing services and experiences across multiple fronts. Ms. Sílvia Inácio, Consul General of Portugal in Shanghai, highlighted streamlined visa processing: fully documented ADS group visas can be issued within 48 hours in the Shanghai consular district, while visa centers in Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou offer “no-appointment” services for individual and business travelers. Airline capacity is also expanding. Capital Airlines has increased its direct flights from Hangzhou to Lisbon to three weekly flights starting December 2025, with plans to assess the potential for launching direct flights from Shanghai in the future. Additionally, the Portuguese National Tourism Administration has launched a dedicated Chinese-language WeChat mini-program, providing Chinese tourists with itinerary planning services covering practical information on attractions, cuisine, and accommodations.
