From December 1 to 5, Altay Prefecture and Urumqi City simultaneously introduced a dedicated “snow break” for primary and secondary school students for the first time. Combined with the preceding and following weekends, students enjoyed a continuous nine-day holiday.
The “snow break” is a winter vacation policy implemented in Xinjiang's primary and secondary schools based on local climate characteristics. It aims to encourage students to participate in cultural and sports activities such as field studies and athletic meets during the break, or to travel with their families, promoting physical and mental well-being through diverse social experiences.
Xinjiang's inaugural “snow break” not only meets students' demand for winter activities but also effectively fuels local winter tourism, driving sustained growth in visitor numbers at snow-related venues.
