The recent global premiere of “Till the End of the Night”, a film shot entirely in Guizhou, showcased the province’s unique urban and rural landscapes surrounded by mountains and rivers, which lent the film a distinctive quality. On May 31, the movie was selected for the main competition unit of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival’s Golden Goblet Awards.

In recent years, more and more film and television productions have chosen Guizhou as their filming location. In the first half of this year alone, several well-known production teams have successively set up shoots in the province.

Once considered low key and niche, Guizhou is now emerging as a popular destination for filmmakers, thanks to its high yield of cinematic-quality scenes. According to incomplete statistics, over the past two years, more than 200 film crews have shot in Guizhou. On social media, hashtags such as “Traveling in Guizhou Through Films,” “Experiencing Guizhou’s Cinematic Vibes,” and “Explore Guizhou Through Art” have become new travel trends among young people, generating hundreds of millions of clicks.

From the everyday life depicted in “A Cool Fish” to the wartime drama of “The Qin Empire” and the rural revitalization narrative in “My People, My Homeland”, each appearance of Guizhou on the big and small screens has reshaped the outside world’s perception of the province.
