A BRITISH thrillseeker has died while Base jumping in the Italian Alps.

The man — named locally as Robert Haggarty — leapt in a wingsuit, but hit the mountainside and crashed into a ledge 600ft down.

Witnesses say they saw Robert Haggarty struggle with his parachute as he plunged to his death
Witnesses raised the alarm when they saw him having difficulty with his parachute shortly after jumping.

Robert, 47, was with 25 pals on the 9,500ft Busazza mountain in the Dolomites, north of Venice.

The Italian Alpine Rescue service released images of paramedics as they battled tough weather conditions to reach the ledge where Robert landed.

A police spokesman said: “We were alerted by several witnesses who had seen the man get into trouble.

“One theory we are looking at is that he didn’t time his take-off well and was too close to the side of the mountain.“His body was recovered by a three-strong team and that was also a very difficult operation which involved lowering the body by harness 160ft.”“
