The Mount Cameroon Race of Hope is an international mountain race organized every year in the month February by the Government of Cameroon together with partners. This year, the athletic competition was organized on 17 February 2018 with the participation of more than 226 athletes from nine countries. Simultaneously, on the sidelines of the race, the International Centre for Environmental Education and Community Development (ICENECDEV) and its partners organized a campaign to reduce plastic waste and educate mountain communities, event supporters, athletes and partners of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope between on 12-17 February.

 

ICENECDEV distributed banners, stickers, brochures and flyers to promote the campaign during the race with aim to combat plastic waste, which is an integral part of ICENECDEV’s project to reduce marine plastic litter and micro-plastic along the west coast of Cameroon, at the base of Mount Cameroon.

 

Additionally, ICENECDEV is currently implementing a project to provide improved cook stoves to rural women, supported financially by World Connect USA, with the aim of reducing indoor air pollution, protecting the health conditions of the rural wo

men and conserving Mount Cameroon forests in the southwest region.
