Issue 8 | Carlos Vires, representative of the Government of Gran Canaria, Spain, visited the headquarters of IMTA

On March 24, Carlos Vires, representative of Gran Canaria Island Government on China Affairs, Yuan Ying, representative in China, Zhou Ying, deputy director of Guizhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Luo Jingwen, assistant of the Association, visited the headquarters of International Mountain Tourism Alliance and had an exchange and discussion with the secretariat of the Alliance.

According to Carlos Varez, Spain is a traditional tourism country. In recent years, tourism has contributed the most to Spain's GDP, with Gran Canaria accounting for 60% of its GDP. Gran Canaria, which receives four million visitors a year, used to rely on its beaches, comfortable climate, sunshine and natural beauty to attract tourists. In recent years, Gran Canaria has started to develop ecotourism, such as mountain tourism. Therefore, the local government was very interested in joining the International Mountain Tourism Alliance and pushed for it.

After hearing about the alliance's background, development and work plan, Carlos Vires suggested that the IMTA's activities and projects could be promoted on social platforms for Western audiences. Establish an exchange mechanism to increase the frequency of exchanges between experts and members. At the same time, Carlos Vires expressed the intention to cooperate with the IMTA in the relevant tourism exhibition in Spain, and to carry out innovative mountain tourism activities in Gran Canaria Island. He invited the leaders of the IMTA to visit Gran Canaria Island to further discuss cooperation matters and deepen mutual understanding.

Wu Mai, Deputy Secretary-General of IMTA, on behalf of the alliance leaders, welcomed Mr. Carlos to visit the IMTA and thanked the Guizhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries for actively facilitating this exchange activity between the two sides. Since its establishment, the alliance has made positive efforts and contributions to promoting the sustainable development of mountain tourism by adhering to the orientation of non-government and non-profit international organizations, following the purpose of the alliance, serving the industry and members, and focusing on the construction of the three platforms of the alliance. Spain is a major tourist country in the world, with rich tourism resources. It is a popular tourist destination. It has many advanced ideas and experience in tourism construction, development and service. There is a lot of room and possibility for cooperation between the Alliance and Gran Canaria. Through this exchange, we look forward to enhancing exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in various activities of the Alliance and expanding the circle of friends of the Alliance. Integrate all resources and forces in the research of key areas of tourism, and participate together; We should make joint efforts to promote the recovery of international tourism market and the development of service trade, so as to make a contribution to the development of global mountain tourism industry.

The IMTA will hold "May 29 International Mountain Tourism Day" in Laos this May, and I hope Mr. Carlos can organize Spanish tourism organizations to participate in the event, said Vinvea, assistant secretary general of the Alliance. Next, we look forward to participating in mountain tourism exhibitions in Spain and China together with Gran Canaria. 2023 International Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports Conference will be held in Guizhou in September. It is hoped that Mr. Carlos will help organize some Spanish mountain tourism experts and investors to attend the conference, in order to promote relevant cooperation.
